In 2014, I earned an all expense paid trip to Virginia Beach, VA as a reward for helping people get fit though my Beachbody coaching business. I was so excited, especially since I was within driving distance! I was all set to go...and then life got crazy. If you follow me on social media, you know that I am married to a college football coach. What that means is that we never know what can happen from year to year. Welp, about 5 weeks before the retreat, my hubby informed me that he had accepted a new job, and we would be moving to Greeley, Colorado. We moved across country within two weeks and were just getting settled into our new place when the retreat would take place, so it just wasn't feasible to make the trip. I was devastated. So this year, when the trip started being discussed and I knew that I would qualify for it, I vowed that I would make it happen, no matter what. And bonus, this year it was taking place in Miami on South Beach!!!!
I've never had sisters. I had a few roommates in college that I was really close to but I always preferred living alone and having a very small group of friends because of the catty female stuff. I'm not saying I'm 'tude free 100% of the time, but it always seemed like a bunch of chicks meant a bunch of drama. So as the trip got closer, I wondered what it would be like to be in a house with that many women. Of course those little insecurities creep in, and you wonder if there will be someone that doesn't like you or if you'll fit in ok with other personalities. I know how important going into a situation with a good mindset is, so a few days prior to leaving I busted out my trusty copy of "You are a Badass" by Jen Sincero and did my best to up my confidence.
I hopped a red eye and landed in Miami at about 6am, took an Uber to the house, and creeped in while the ladies who had arrived the day earlier were still sleeping. As I was waking up, the bulk of the ladies were just arriving at the airport, and about an hour later (and after an awesome 22 minute workout on the back porch), we had about 14 women in the house. It was seriously a freaking love fest from the get-go. Squeals and smiles and "Oh my goodness, I'm so glad to finally meet you!" all over the place. We put on our bikinis and headed out to the back patio with beers in hand. For the next several hours it felt like a music video, except there were no boys aside from one ones on our glasses (refer to picture below). Just a bunch of women, enjoying the sun, laughing, and getting to know each other better. That evening, we all converged on the living room, popped champagne to toast each other's success, shared stories, cried and laughed together and bonded for life. It was INCREDIBLE.
The next morning we headed to the beach and more magic happened. Every single one of us discussed throughout the day how although we were on a public beach surrounded by thousands of strangers, we took such comfort in being accepted and supported by the 17 other women, each with their own body insecurities and imperfections, that we didn't even notice the strangers around us, let alone feel one bit self conscious about our own bodies. What an incredible thing to experience...Positive women lifting each other up! After some fun in the sun, we headed back to our house to get prettied up for the FREAKING PHOTOSHOOT that our mentors had arranged for us that evening. This is where things could have gotten dicey...18 women, all wanting to look their best, and only 2.5 hours to get ready in 4 bathrooms. Things could NOT have gone more smoothly. There were women helping each other put on fake eyelashes, curl their hair, and even ironing one another's clothes. We all were ready on time, and the photoshoot was a memory that will last a lifetime.
After the "official business" concluded, it was time for fun! The weekend went on for some of us into Monday, and I'm not going to give you all the juicy deets, but I hope that this post conveys how AMAZING this trip was and just how much love and respect there is between all of the women on this coaching team. Becoming a Beachbody coach has been HANDS DOWN the best thing that I have ever done, and this weekend just proves it. If you have a heart to help others and commit to your own personal growth, there's just no limit to the experiences or relationships that you can have. Each of the women in attendance have had such an impact on my soul, and that could not have happened had I not took a leap of faith, believed in myself, and joined this incredible team. If you're looking for not just a fun career based on fitness where you can truly design your life, but for SISTERHOOD, and a community that supports and encourages each other, I urge you to contact me. The great thing is that we've always got room for more positive peeps.
Hi! I'm Andrea Cummings. I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle that I can MAINTAIN and that still lets me feel like I'm not being deprived. I like to exercise, but I also love to eat (nachos!). My main focus is to be healthy, not skinny, and to help others do the same! I love Jesus, but I also say fuck a lot, so if you're offended, I may not be the gal for you.
