So I've gone back and forth on whether I should write a post like this or not. Here's the deal. I am a beachbody coach. I DO get commission when someone purchases shakeology through me. There's my full disclosure, so yes, this will be a "biased" review. But here's the thing...I became a beachbody coach BECAUSE of shakeology. Not because I could make money off of people buying it. I'm gonna be honest here...there's a whole lotta people out there that spend a shit ton of money on things that don't benefit them one bit, but then say that shakeology is too expensive. Trust me...It's not EASY to "sell". I became a coach because I BELIEVE in it. It WORKED for me. It did exactly what I was told it would. It kept me satisfied throughout the day. It gave me energy. I had been doing beachbody programs for a year before I tried shakeology and guess what? I had "good" results with my first two programs, but after my third program AND shakeology, I finally had one of those informercial worthy transformation photos. My coworkers would complain about how they were exhausted at about 2pm daily, and I'd be wide awake. I didn't call in sick for work ONCE the year I started drinking it (wellll maybe the day after the holiday party...but that was a different kind of sick if ya know what I mean...) I found myself having NO desire to stop by Burger King for 2 egg and cheese croissanwiches and a small Dr. Pepper. I found myself not craving things like nachos and fast food (which I previously loved). I'm not saying I still didn't eat these things. I had plenty of date nights where I enjoyed Chuy's free unlimited happy hour nacho bar. But I didn't need to cave once a day to something bad for me, which I previously had done. I was able to CONTROL my cheats, and not let them run my life. What's more? I went back and got my blood panels redone a few months after I started drinking shakeology...My LDL cholesterol had dropped from 141 to 89! That was it. There was no more arguing about it not being a good investment. Yes, I was paying (after my coaches discount and coach fee) about $120 per month. But that's 4.00 per day! People say, "Well I DON'T have a latte from Starbucks every day" or "I DON'T have fast food breakfast everyday so it will be an added expense." I didn't either. But I did do it about 3x per week, and am willing to bet my LIFE that most people reading this do too. My order at Burger King, which had very little nutritional value, came to $4.45 (That's how often I went...I still remember the total). And if it wasn't BK breakfast, I'd stop at a sub shop for lunch and plunk down $5-7 for a combo meal. Even though I didn't have one ritual DAILY, I was still throwing away at least $10-15 per week on garbage (This is not counting date nights to the Olive Garden where our bill frequently topped $50). So that's $60 per month in fast food...So that's half the cost of shakeology...Let me ask you this? Would you be willing to come out of pocket $60 per month for something that could provide all of the benefits I listed above? I bet you would. So even if you aren't a daily fast food buyer who can easily swap out the price of a value meal for the cost of a FULL MEAL, PACKED with nutrition, I'd be willing to bet that there are at least a FEW small unnecessary food purchases per month that if you removed, would free up at least $30-40 which you could put towards the cost of this LIFE CHANGING product.
Two last things about Shakeology I'd like to clear up before I go. 1. Shakeology is NOT a protein shake. It's a health shake that has protein in it. There's a big difference. You likely don't need additional protein unless you are protein deficient, or want another option because you don't like other protein sources. I don't know where this whole "protein shake" movement has come from, but EXTRA protein will not cause you to lose weight. Which leads me to my final gripe. 2. Yes, you CAN eat healthy and BE healthy without shakeology. NO ONE is claiming that this is the ONLY way to be healthy. Here's the deal. I don't like vegetables. And even the ones I do like, I am SURE that I don't eat nearly enough of to get proper nutrition. I know, without a doubt, that as long as I've had my shake, I am getting everything that my body needs (and then some). Most of our country is in a health crisis. They will reach for a fast food hamburger made from God knows what, before they hit up the store and buy some organic broccoli. You know what else they will reach for before the broccoli? A chocolate milkshake. That's the beauty of shakeology. It gives you everything your body needs. All of these amazing benefits, AND it takes less than 3 minutes to make and tastes like a chocolate milkshake. THAT is why it's important. If you eat all organic, hormone free, blah blah blah, That's great for you! But that person in the next cubicle over? They are struggling. Their health is failing or they hate the way they look in the mirror because they (like myself) STRUGGLE with food. They need help, and Shakeology can help them. If you're looking for something to help you change your diet, I PROMISE this will help you. It's all natural, so you're not pumping your body full of chemicals, like some other "weight loss" drinks out there. I GET that it is costly to buy a whole month's supply up front. But one final thought...What if it DID do all of the things that I listed for you and then some? What if it DID help you get off cholesterol medication? What if it DID help you control those ice cream cravings so that you could FINALLY get that baby weight off? What if it DID give you more energy to help you get through the day and be a more present parent for your children at night? Would it be worth trying for 60 days then? Would a few hundred dollars for a few month's supply be worth it if you could look back 60 days from now saying you met your goals and are on your way to a healthier life for yourself AND the people that love you? Looking back? I'd pay double the cost if it meant I'd be where I am right now. If you're ready to invest in yourself, I'm here. Reach out and let me help you.
Vegetables...I have NEVER liked them. As I've gotten older and learned to cook them myself in ways that don't make me gag, I've begrudgingly added them to my diet, ONLY because I know that my body needs them. If solid research came out tomorrow that veggies don't do anything for your health, I could easily say goodbye to our green little friends and never look back. But (unfortunately) we all know that isn't going to happen. Vegetables are VITAL to your health, and the truth is, most Americans don't eat ANYWHERE NEAR what we are supposed to each day. When I was little, and forced to sit at the table until I ate everything on my plate, I vividly remember swallowing mouthfuls of peas with a big gulp of milk. To this day, even thinking about actually chewing and swallowing peas makes me want to gag. Somehow, though, I must have been channeling my future self, who literally looks forward to drinking peas daily now. Yep. I said DRINKING peas (What the what?). They are one of the many ingredients in Shakeology, which I drink every morning and at this point, quite honestly could not live without. I'm not going to go on an on about the ingredients (most of which I can't pronounce and have no idea what they do) or the taste, or even the health benefits, which are PROFOUND (My LDL, or 'bad' cholesterol, went from 143 to 89 after 3 months of drinking it). This post, ladies and gents, isn't going to be about the goodness of shakeology. I think if you know me and have ever asked why I'm so addicted to it, you have already gotten an earful. In this post I plan to gloss over all the benefits and skip right to the awkward part...the cost. Yep. I said it. The dreaded money issue.
Here's the deal. I'm not claiming to know intimate details about anyone's finances. I'm fully aware that there are some people who literally live paycheck to paycheck (or less) and CANNOT account for ANY additional expenses or "fun money" in their budget. The good news is, they aren't my intended audience for this post. Who I am talking to is most of the people I know. Most of America, actually. If you work a 9-5 job, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. What do you see every morning while sitting in traffic? A line wrapped around your local McDonald's, Burger King, and Starbucks. I'm not calling out those chains here at all. I can't knock the hustle. They serve what people want (If anyone's headed out, I'll take an egg and cheese croissanwich, please!), and charge what people are willing to pay. Did you see what I did there? WILLING TO PAY. Every day, hundreds of thousands (maybe millions? I have no concept of that kinda stuff) of people spend their morning or lunch hour in a drive thru, or pop into Starbuck's to get their morning latte. These purchases are AT LEAST $4-5, and they are purchasing something that has little to no nutritional value. Yet when people ask about the cost of Shakeology, they are FLABBERGASTED that something that contains almost an entire day's worth of nutrients, includes antioxidants and superfoods, and could replace that coffee or McGriddle, would cost $4 a serving. Now I know, I know, you can't buy it by the serving. You have to buy it up front. That's because they don't sell it on every street corner (unfortunately). But that's literally the ONLY difference between Shakeology drinkers and the fast food/coffee crowd. We pay for ours once a month. They pay for it day by day. Wait...No...I lied. That's not the only difference. We are paying for something that NOURISHES our body, not something that will flow through you and splatter the back wall of the toilet in your office bathroom for your coworkers to look at until the cleaning crew comes by the next morning (I used to work in an office building...trust me, I know what I'm talking about). Here's another thing: How many people "go out" on a weekend? You can EASILY spend $25 each weekend on bar tabs, cover charges, movie tickets, or even shopping for shoes or getting a mani/pedi. The difference there? Rather than breaking it up morning by morning in the drive thru, you're breaking it up weekend by weekend. Guaranteed, if you spent $100 in one weekend shopping, you would tighten up a little bit for the rest of the month, right? Sure, but the point is YOU COULD AFFORD IT. It's just WHERE you see VALUE.
Some people see value in shoes and handbags. Some people see value in a monthly massage or pedicure. And some poor souls see value in their morning processed meat patty and greasy hashbrowns, which are slowly pushing them into an early grave. I see value in knowing that I'm getting EVERYTHING that my body needs daily. Do I have to give up some things because I drink Shakeology? Sure! I have all but given up fast food. If someone can explain to me how that's NOT a good thing, I'd be happy to listen. I paint my nails at home. Quite honestly, I shop rarely. Not because I don't LOVE shopping, but because since I've started drinking Shakeology and become healthier in general, I cannot stay in one size. I am literally shrinking, so I don't like to invest a lot in clothes at the moment. Alright, you get it (I hope)...I'm not trying to bully anyone into drinking Shakeology. It's YOUR life. As much as I love to help people, your health is YOUR PROBLEM, not mine (and quite honestly, Shakeology isn't the ONLY way to get healthy. It's just what I recommend). All I can do is offer my advice and support if you WANT to become healthier. But please, PLEASE, if you have a smart phone, internet connection, cable, go out on the weekends, stop at the fast food drive thru a few times a week, or hit up the Olive Garden twice a month, DO NOT tell me that the reason you are not buying something that could change your life and DEFINITELY make you healthier is because you don't have the money. You HAVE the money. You just don't see VALUE in spending it on Shakeology. Please tell me that instead. Because I promise, if you really wanted it, chances are if we sat down and looked at your finances, we all know that you could find somewhere to pull it from.
