A few years ago I started getting in shape. I'm not gonna go too far into my journey, because I've talked about that quite a bit here already, but I've been thinking about something a lot lately. Something that I was SO AFRAID of before I committed to getting in shape. I dragged my heels for so long because I LOVED food (again, something you probably already know if you've followed me). I was SO afraid that I would have to give up my beloved nachos, chicken wings, and sodas. Here's the thing though. You don't have to give up everything. You just have to give up SOMETHING. When you make the decision to get healthy, you just have to start making changes. Cut down on your soda consumption from one a day to one every two days. Use less creamer in your coffee, or switch it out for almond milk. Ease up on the steak and ground beef and swap it out for chicken or go vegetarian for one day a week. Keep your cheats to one meal a week, instead of one meal a day. I think a lot of people nowadays are eating what should be "cheat meals" as their consistent everyday fare, and the exception is the healthy meal once or twice a week. When it comes to fitness, you DO have to practice restraint if you want specific results, but don't get it twisted...You DON'T have to practice deprivation. You see, you can still enjoy your favorite sub shop or pizza parlor once a week, you just can't enjoy the sub shop, pizza parlor, fast food joint, and ice cream shop all in ONE week. Over the past few years of my health journey, I've been scoffed at for turning down doughnuts at the office, but you know what? Turning down those doughnuts a few times and retreating to my office to have my shakeology or mid morning apple with cinnamon may have sucked at the time, but I have the body of my DREAMS now because of those little choices I made when it would have been easy to cave. Now, I CAN eat a doughnut without any SHAME because I have reached my goals. I know I work hard most of the time and DESERVE a little indulgence every now and then, but I DON'T use the fact that I work hard to continuously undo my progress with poor choices. You don't have to change EVERYTHING. You just have to change something.
Hi! I'm Andrea Cummings. I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle that I can MAINTAIN and that still lets me feel like I'm not being deprived. I like to exercise, but I also love to eat (nachos!). My main focus is to be healthy, not skinny, and to help others do the same! I love Jesus, but I also say fuck a lot, so if you're offended, I may not be the gal for you.
